Parley Cricket Club is indebted to DJB Machinery Ltd who have sponsored the full refurbishment of their roller. For those who had seen the roller it was certainly ready for some TLC. It has now returned to our Dorset home and we want to give a massive shout out to Dan Bryce. He and his team, especially Albert, have completed the work at their Kent base and kindly sponsored the entire operation. www.djbmachinery.co.uk. Before and after photos show what a fantastic job they have done. Collected and delivered back, the roller has been painted, repaired, had new parts installed and undergone a mechanical upgrade.
Being a quintessential classic cricket roller we undertook some research regarding origin and discovered that it 'rolled' off the production line in March 1959 at Hertfordshire County Council. It arrived at Parley in 2016 having served the old county ground at Dean Park for 25 years since 1991. Many will recall the final first-class match at Dean Park was between Hampshire and Middlesex in August 1992. That match had the likes of Gower and Marshall for Hampshire and Gatting and Tufnell for Middlesex in opposition.
Hopefully the machine will continue for many years to come in the hands of the Parley ground volunteers. That hope will be supported even more by DJB Machinery Ltd who have also agreed to provide a six monthly service within their sponsorship arrangement.
To the roller we say ‘Happy 63rd birthday’!
To DJB Machinery Ltd we say ‘Thank you’ and ‘Much appreciated’.
