2018 Match Reports
5th May
12th May -Our first home game of the 2018 season saw us take on Hordle Village at Littledown. Skipper Steve Laird was forced to assume umpiring duties due to a nasty incident with 2 frozen beef burgers and a metal spatula. As a result the ever reliable Steve Roe deputized. Having lost the toss, Parley were asked to bowl. Opening from the Lake end, Andy Symes was quickly on the mark and completed a tidy spell of 6 overs, 3 maidens 1 for 15. At the Tuckton end, Chris “Willow” Williams removed one of their opening batsmen with a full straight delivery – LBW! Willow completed his spell with very respectable figures of 1 over 4 maidens 1 for 8!. Colin Tilley then partnered up with U13 debutant Joe Huns. Whilst Tilley took 3 wickets ( at least one was shall we say “bought”) Joe bowled with control and a very good length – Joe’s spell of 6 overs, 2 maidens 0 for 9 was a great way to start his adult cricket career. Tilley tore through the Hordle middle order – 8 overs 2 maidens 3 for 18. Lewis Briscoe and Bo Powell (both U14) completed a very comprehensive bowling display taking 1 and 2 wickets respectively.

A target of 69 was always going to be achievable, it was just down to how many wickets we would lose in achieving the target. Cameron Laird (U16) and Marcus Bragginton (another U13 debutant) opened the batting, Cameron being caught at gully of a full toss that was adjudged to have been just been below waist height ( Cameron is still not sure about this though!) Marcus started very patiently, until his eyes lit up to a loopy slow delivery and was bowled. These 2 wickets saw skipper Steve Roe and Kieran Laird (yet another U13 debutant) together and they set about chasing down the total. Steve Roe fell to a straight delivery, however Kieran Laird marched on with Andy Symes only for Andy to pick out one of the few Hordle fielders on the legside that could catch – the fielder not having to move an inch! Hannah Saunders ( U14 debutant)  joined Kieran at the crease and they knocked off the winning runs to score our second victory of the season – Hannah finishing 4 not out and Kieran Laird 28 not out.

A very pleasing victory especially as our junior cricketers were all actively involved in delivering the victory

Next Saturday we visit Christchurch IIs. Come on Hants III can we make it 3 wins on the trot!

2017 Match Reports

13th May -
6th May - Parley 4ths won the toss and decided to bowl on what looked a good wicket - maybe something in it early doors for some movement both in the air and off the wicket. Opening the bowling were 2 U13 players – Axel Deem - 1 for 45 off 8 overs and Milind Khashu  - 2 for 45 off  9 overs – they both bowled with control throughout their initial 5 over spells – an excellent performance on debut!
Superb spin bowling from both Spencer Savage - 1 for 36 off 8 overs and Kyle Hopkins – 2 for 36 off 8 overs maintained our control over the opposition. Andy Symes also bowled with control – 5 over for 24 runs.
Burley finished on 207 for 7 off their 42 overs – possibly 20 runs more than they should have reached – however with a very quick outfield a total that was very reachable...
Rob O’Sullivan opened the batting with Steve Laird – who made a sound start before Rob was bowled for 9. Spencer Hopkins came in at 3 and got possibly the best ball of the innings – an in-swinging Yorker first ball, that would have cleaned up every batsman in the team… Enter Steve Roe…
Steve & Steve put on a 150 run partnership to put Parley in firm control. Eventually Steve Laird falling lbw for 111. Steve Roe continued to the end on 67 not out, along with John Hopkins – 7 not out to record an impressive first win of the 2017 season by 7 wickets…
